Ahead of the 2026 local elections in, we linked up with 4 local campaign groups to develop a set of 5 key demands which we put to the local parties in all 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester for improving transport choices and reducing car dominance across the city region.

These demands reflected similar demands that we had jointly made when Transport for Greater Manchester consulted on its draft Local Transport Plan, shortly before the elections. Thank you to everyone who took action in support of this campaign!

Our key demands attracted strong positive responses from at least one local party in 8 of the 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester. This included the Liberal Democrats in Stockport, who took control of the local council as a result of the election.

The table below shows the responses received. These have opened up an excellent opportunity for constructive engagement with local candidates who got elected, particularly where they now control the council.

We hope this will now result in the adoption of a stronger Local Transport Plan, and action to make it easier to get around all parts of Greater Manchester without always needing to drive.
